The 1880’s were the core period of the second industrial revolution when railroads, sky scrapers and electric lighting were introduced; the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary was published, Coca Cola was invented and John Thompson and his Sons opened an animal feed mill in Belfast

– pioneering developments which have all prospered since those early days and contributed to major progress in business, food production and lifestyles.

John Thompson and Sons were the pioneers of better feedingstuff and their continued success has been built on quality feed production and performance on farm.

The company is now the largest mill site in the British Isles, and has a combined heat and power plant to generate its own electricity which not only reduces manufacturing costs but also adds major environmental advantages., Recent developments also include a world class bio secure facility for the manufacture of poultry feed and a new blending plant which produces specialist blends to complement their leading ruminant rations.

Thompsons participate in all quality assurance schemes which have been developed to help prevent major feed and food safety incidents and ensure fertiliser security.

The company’s range of ruminant feeds is complemented by a range of leading pig, poultry and horse feeds in addition to many quality assured alternative feeds.

Thompsons supply silage additives, silage covers, fertiliser, G Lime and grass seed in addition to services such as Milk Manager; Feed Byte; Silage Analysis and Soil Analysis.
