John Thompson and Sons Ltd. is part of the agricultural supply industry and is therefore in the first link in the food chain. The company participates in all assurance schemes which have been developed to help prevent major feed and food safety scares and ensure fertiliser security. All of this has been carried out in response to consumer, industry, and government requirements.

Thompsons was the first mill in the British Isles to be awarded ISO 9002 and the company has also been awarded the organic IOFGA accreditation.

In addition to all of the nutritional expertise and the sophisticated manufacturing facilites Thompsons have kept an awareness of the environment and energy usage. The company has won an environmental benefits award for the reduction of CO2 emissions and an Ulster In Bloom award from the NI Tourist Board for the best commercial site. The entire process and site are now approved to the environmental standard EN 14001.

Efficiency measures such as the generation of their own electricity through a combined heat and power plant has helped to reduce both manufacturing costs and energy usage.

Thompsons also operate an on-site laboratory which is independently verified and UKAS approved.
