It is very important for farmers to apply fertiliser according to the exact needs of the soil. Firstly to comply with the dictates of the Nitrates Directive and secondly because fertiliser costs have increased and any fertiliser surplus to soil needs is wasted.

Thompsons can supply a soil analysis pack which allows the farmer to take samples from six different fields and have them analysed for lime, phosphate and potash. On the basis of this information the farmer can then apply fertiliser or lime in the knowledge that he is not harming the environment or wasting precious fertiliser that is not required by the soil.
